Vertical Axis Wind Turbines
Industrial Ecology represents Tangarie Alternative Power. Tangarie is a New Jersey based manufactured with a manufacturing facility in Texas. They produce Vertical Axis wind turbines in several configurations.
Models currently available can generate 1 kilowatt, 2, 5 and 10 kilowatts of power at
rated wind speeds. The Vertical axis and vane design mean that the Turbine can grab wind from any direction and start rotating. Generally wind speeds of 4.5 mph and higher will start the turbine rotating. Rated wind speeds are in the 25 mph range. Maximum rated speed is 90 mph. The pictures below and a link to Walbridge (www.walbrdge.com) show installations in Chicago, Recent installations in Corpus Christi, St. Louis (Washington University) and Miami have been completed. An Architectural rendering also shown below from Ron Richert II of Affinity Architects shows the concept for a residential configuration. Applications include a combination solar/wind pole for security cameras, billboard lighting and street lighting power.
